American forward, Christian Pulisic gave Chelsea a first leg away goal advantage over Real Madrid following a 1-1 draw at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.
Thomas Tuchel’s men took the lead in the 14 minutes after when Pulisic took full advantage as he raced on to Antonio Rudiger’s long pass, coolly rounded off Courtois, and then shot between Nacho Fernades and Eder Militao on the line.
restored the parity with a fine volley inside the six-yard box from goal following a lovely first touch with his head at the half-hour mark.
The second half couldn’t live up to the enthralling first 45 minutes on a rain-soaked pitch with neither side threatening to take the full first leg. The result gives Chelsea a slight first-leg advantage over Madrid on the away goal rule.
Chelsea will now face Fulham on Saturday while Real Madrid welcomes Osasuna on the same day in the Premier League and La Liga Santander respectively before their Champions League return leg in Stamford Bridge on May 5, 2021.
