Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka have attended the hearing of petitions seeking to oust four Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners.
The four are IEBC Vice Chair Juliana Cherera and commissioners Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyang’aya.
The Republican Party, Dennis Nthumbi, Geoffrey Langat, and Owuor Steve Gerry petitioned for their removal on grounds of gross misconduct, abuse of office, violation of the Constitution, and taking sides in the August 9th presidential race.
The hearing, being held at the County Hall in Nairobi, is chaired by a 15-member Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC).
Raila and Kalonzo were accompanied by Azimio’s communications director Makau Mutua.
According to a statement issued by the National Assembly clerk Samuel Njoroge, the hearings will see the Republican Party appear first before the committee to present his petition, followed by Dennis Nthumbi.
Geoffrey Langat and Owuor Steve Gerry will appear before the JLAC committee on Friday.
The four commissioners will the be allowed to respond against the petitions on Monday, November 28, starting with Vice Chair Cherera.
