Small business owners in Gikomba market here in Nairobi are yet again crying fault following a fire incident that happened on the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
The fire, whose cause has not been established, started at the Southern part of the open-air market opposite the Jua Kali section and adjacent to Muthurwa Primary School located in Pumwani.
Several onlookers and traders managed to savage some of the properties before the firefighters arrived late on as they usually do,Sad!
Now Kamukunji Legislator, Yusuf Hassan, who also broke the news of the inferno, has expressed his sadness over the increased fire incidents in the area.
“Saddened that the section of the market has been gutted by yet another fire and traders are to face incalculable losses,” Yusuf wrote.
Last August, another fire was witnessed in the market. It broke out at night at the Molo Line area popularly known as Ghorofani and raged till dawn.
After the tragic incident, the traders sued Nairobi County Government demanding Ksh20 billion in compensation.
